Classes for Teens
Thread Den offers a great range of classes for kids and teens, to suit both beginners and those wanting to undertake more challenging projects. Develop skills with textiles, add to your folio, or just make something completely unique. Classes are run in the light-filled Thread Den sewing lounge and are led by industry professionals and friendly instructors.
School Holiday Program
The kids school holiday program will return for two great weeks of sewing and craft, with classes suitable for children and teens. Led by local designers and craftspeople, this program has been coordinated with a focus on our responsibility to recycling and purchasing materials locally. Fill up those spare holiday hours learning new skills, exercising your creativity and making new friends, in a fun and social environment.

Sewing Basics Module 1: Let’s start at the very beginning
For those who are completely new to sewing. This class will be led in a simple and easy to follow format. First you will be acquainted with the sewing machine and its features, dials and buttons. You will learn to confidently set up the machine for sewing ‐ how to insert a needle, thread the machine, and wind and load a bobbin. In the second half of the class you will make your own sewing satchel, whilst learning handy construction tips.

1 x 3 hour OPEN AGE class - $55

Sewing Basics Module 2: Zips & Buttonholes
Learn to finish your garments with working and professional looking closures. This class will give you the information you need to confidently sew in zippers and buttonholes. After this class, there'll be no stopping you!
1 x 2 hour class - $39
OR
1 x 3 hour OPEN AGE class - $55
Please note: 3 hour class recommended for 12 + only. Additional information will be covered in this class including casings and sewn-in elastic finishings.

Hooked on Crochet 10+
Learn the cool, fuzzy skill of crochet. There will be no stopping you once you get started!

Screen Printing 12+
Take your own designs and turn them into unique fabric, T-shirts and more. Using your own design, you will learn to screen print this image onto your chosen fabric or piece of clothing.
1 x 3 hour class

BYO: Please bring a light coloured t-shirt, a piece of fabric, or other items you wish to print onto. Also bring along your own designs or photocopies to make into a stencil. You can also draw your own image in class.
Refashion Your Vintage Fashion 12+
How many great vintage fashions do you have sitting on the mending pile because they’re 'not quite right'? Don’t have the time or know-how to make them fit you properly? Well put it off no longer! Come to this class and we'll work together to bring those refashioning ideas to life.
1 x 2 hour session

You will need to bring:
Any garments you'd like adjust, matching thread, and any other notions needed (eg. zips, buttons etc).
KIDS CLUB: Softies 6+
This simple and fun project will have you creating your very own soft toy companion. We will provide everything you need to make a weird or whimsical creature of
your own imagination.
Ages 6+
Please note: Parental supervision for children 8 years & under is required.

Sling Bag Making 13+
Want to make your own bag? Bring along your own special fabric to create a unique bag. Once you've made one there's no stopping you!
All sewing equipment is provided by Thread Den, but please bring along fabric to make your bag. A great selection of unique vintage fabric is also available for purchase in store.
